Danny Matthew Smolnik (64), beloved father, husband, son and brother, left this world on May 23, 2025 after a three and half years long battle with cancer.
He was born to Daniel and Marie Smolnik on October 7, 1960 at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst, NJ station hospital. After graduating high school in Simsbury, CT, Danny pursued his thirst for knowledge at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY and then further at the Valparaiso University Law School in Valparaiso, IN. After practicing law in Connecticut for over 20 years, Danny decided to go one step further to receive his MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the MIT in Cambridge, MA.
Danny had many highs in his distinguished career as a Tax Attorney for which he was immensely proud; but he would be the first to tell you that his life started the day he met his wife Alexandra, and when his children Daniel and Elizabeth were born.
Danny had a passion for public service. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association, Economic Development Commission of Hamden, CT, Hamden/North Haven YMCA Board of Directors, Connecticut Public Community Advisory Board, Connecticut Economic Development Association, and Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
Danny was preceded in death by his father Daniel and wife Jill Smolnik. He is survived by his wife Alexandra, son Daniel, daughter Elizabeth, mother Marie, brother Steven, sister-in-law Jenifer, and brother Matthew.
One of Danny's passions was service and advocacy for food insecurity in the under-served populations. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Connecticut Foodshare. (https://donate.ctfoodshare.org/Dannysmemorialdrive)
A memorial service will be held on June 28, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where Danny was an active member.
