It is with both gratitude and sadness that the family of Edward Disler announce his passing on Thursday, February 24th in Bridgeport, CT at the age of 102. Mr. Disler was born on September 3, 1919 in Winthrop, MA to Lena and Harry Disler. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Hyman Disler, on August 17, 2019. They were married on September 3, 1941 in New Haven, CT and were together in marriage for the next nearly 78 years. He is survived by this son Alan of Los Angeles, CA; his son Mark (Charlene) of Rockville, MD; and his daughter Wendy of Wallingford, CT. He also leaves his much beloved granddaughter, Stephanie (Philip) Ottochian of Meriden, CT; and his twin great grandsons, Devin and Tate Ottochian, who brought him many joyful and funny moments these last few years. A proud World War II veteran, Edward worked two jobs for most of his adult life, as a mail handler at the USPS on Brewery Street, and as a grocery clerk at Pegnataro's on Whalley Avenue, both in New Haven. His family always came first, there was never any wavering from that. His generosity, honesty, and sense of right from wrong were unmatched. He was extremely disciplined, fiercely independent, and also very stubborn. He was the consummate gentleman while having the quickest wit. He faced adversity with incredible strength, dignity, and a sense of humor. Edward's family would like to thank the entire staff of the Lawry House at Jewish Senior Services of Bridgeport for their care of both Edward and Sara. We will be forever grateful to their certified nursing assistant, Gillette, who cared for them with love and understanding. A special thank you to Dr. Kenneth Fine for his thorough and always compassionate care of both Edward and Sara while they were residents at Jewish Senior Services.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Robert E. Shure Funeral Home of New Haven. Graveside services will be held at Beth Hamedrosh Cemetery, Brockett Place, East Haven, on Sunday, February 27th at 1:00 pm.
