Edward . Obituary

Edward F. Piazza, Esq.
July 16,1941 -October 30, 2021
Edward "Grampy" Francis Piazza, Esq., 80, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on October 30. He was born in New Haven July 16, 1941 to Dr. George and Blanche Crossley Piazza. He graduated from Notre Dame H.S (Class of 1959) where he received the Man of the Year award, Fordham University (Class of 1963) and Boston College Law School (Class of 1966). He practiced law with Trotta Law Offices and latest Del Sole and Del Sole before he retired in 2001.
He married the love of his life, Judy, and for 56 years together, were lifelong residents of the Morris Cove and St. Bernadette's community, moving three times all within a four block radius. He leaves his devoted wife, Judith Votto Piazza, son Edward Francis Piazza Jr. (Heather) of Ocala Fl. son Philip George Piazza (Michelle) of Branford, CT. He also leaves five grandchildren Alyssa Piazza of Napa, California, Edward Miller of Branford, CT, Ethan Piazza of Branford, CT, Jessica Piazza of Branford, CT and Giovanni Piazza of Ocala Florida. He also leaves 3 step-grandchildren Randy Piazza, Mackenzie Piazza and Cody Piazza, all of Ocala Fl. He also leaves his older brother, George Piazza (Elaine) of Hamden, CT, cousin Frank Ardizzone (Marion) of New Haven, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Robert and Louise Ferrando of Cheshire, CT and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his wife and family, the other loves of Ed's life were his Philadelphia Phillies, BC Eagles and Fordham Rams. The passion he had for his sports teams was often met with much heartache. Thankfully he was rewarded for his years of devotion with World Series titles for the Phillies in 1980 and in 2008, and multiple National Titles for BC in Hockey and one in Lacrosse. He loved his hats and t-shirts, especially those celebrating championships!
For someone who enjoyed sitting in his living room chair, Ed led a very active life. Over the years he contributed much time and effort to worthy causes. He has served on the Board of Directors of the New Haven Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Amity Club, where he also served as its President. He was a Commissioner for the Annex Y.M.A. Little League and served as Eucharistic Minister for Saint Bernadette's Parish, visiting the home bound members of the parish. He was a member of the Commission of Equal Opportunities and was also Chairman of the New Haven Jury Committee. He was an active member of the Melebus Club and Knights of Columbus, the lifetime Treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 401 of East Haven, and a member of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Deputy Corporation Council, and was honored by the Oak Street Group as its Man of the Year in 1984. In the 80's and 90's he also served as a Commissioner to the New Haven Coliseum Authority.
Ed was an avid reader, especially presidential biographies including numerous volumes about his favorite, President Harry Truman. Throughout his life he was an avid stamp collector, coin collector, and baseball card collector. Both he and his wife traveled the world visiting Italy, England ,France, Hawaii, and many national parks across the US. He also visited nearly every historical battlefield in the continental United States with his wife Judy in tow. When he wasn't traveling he loved to sit on the porch with a good cigar, reading history and listening to the ballgame.
Many special thanks to the staff at Grimes Center in New Haven who took care of Ed and watched over his wife Judy as she visited him every day since he entered the facility back in February of 2020.

Dear Judy, Ed Jr., Philip and family,

We were so sorry to learn that your Edward had passed away. Please accept my sincere sympathy in your great loss.

I remember, every Sunday, we would be at our Aunt and Uncle's cottage (Aiello) at Silver Sands. Eddie and George would be running from the beach to their cottage listening to the baseballs games on the radio. The Piazzas' were a wonderful family and friends!

May the Lord in his merciful understanding, comfort and strengthen you at this grievous time.

Sincerely, Cheryl Grieb Serfilippi

Mr. Piazza helped my mother so much through the probate process when my dad died; many years ago. I will never forget his kindness during that terrible time. His service and presence at St. Bernadette will always be appreciated as well. God rest his soul.
