Ellen Scanlon Memoriam
In Memory of Ellen May Linda (Sissy) Farrell Scanlon
1947-2022
Ellen, our mother, was the Vanguard and heart of our family. Standing at 4 feet 11 inches, she carried us with strength and love before passing the reins to her beloved husband, Richie-our dad and family rock-who fiercely holds them to this day. Born on February 23, 1947, in Orange, Connecticut, Ellen passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 17, 2022.
Raised without a mother, Ellen and her brother Dickie endured hardship together, forging a bond that sustained them through loss and challenge. That lifelong connection reminded her-and all of us-that family ties are the foundation of resilience and hope.
Ellen was the first in our family to graduate from college, proving that perseverance opens doors. Her tenacity in learning shaped her most meaningful work as a drug and alcohol therapist, where she guided others toward renewal and second chances. She believed deeply in the power of redemption and offered encouragement to those who had lost their way.
Her pride in her son, our youngest brother, David, was boundless. Following her example, he became the next in our family to graduate, earning his law degree. Ellen's joy in his achievement reflected her legacy of education, determination, and unwavering belief in possibility.
Honesty was her compass, even when the truth was complicated to say or hear.
Tenacious and persistent, she inspired courage in those around her. Family was her core, and she taught us that loyalty and devotion to each other are what make us strong and united.
Ellen leaves behind her beloved husband, Richard Scanlon; her brother, Richard (Dickie) Farrell, and his wife, Jackie; her children, Mary (with Roger Saucier), Moreen, and David Ishikawa; Coralie Ishikawa-Palmer and her husband, Mark Palmer; and grandchildren Elizabeth (Beth) Saucier, Kai, and Mia Watson. She was preceded in death by her son, Carl Ishikawa, and her grandsons, Baby Carl and Brian Saucier, whose memories remain alive within us.
Her legacy is one of strength, honesty, education, and devotion. We will honor her by living the values she instilled in us. We will miss her, love her, and carry her spirit always. May she rest in peace.
