I just saw a note in Facebook, and then saw this obit. I am really sorry to hear about Gary. We used to play basketball in high school, and reconnected just about a year ago on Facebook. I always thought he was one of the good guys.

Dear Dolores,
Just this evening (8/22) I searched for Gary on Facebook. Every now and again I remember the good friends of my late husband, Tom Loughlin, and wonder how they are doing. Gary was a good friend to Tom and was well thought of. I hope all the wonderful years you had together and the memories of so many bring you comfort. God bless. Marie Loughlin

So sorry to hear of Gary's passing. We carved a similar path from our days at the Westport News to the Bridgeport Post and on to the Courant. He was a sweet man and a good reporter. May you find comfort in your memories of Gary.
Peace.

I just got the news on Gary. Can't believe it. Helluva reporter and great guy as you know. I'm sorry. We had many laughs at the Courant. I'm sure he's still trying to get autographs in heaven.

Dear Dolores and Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy and prayers for your loss. I know it's been many, many years since I have seen any of you, but remember your wonderful family as if it were yesterday. Gary was such a devoted father, bringing or picking up his children from St. John Vianney Nursery School. He completed your family and I know his continued loved will be with you forever!
Love and prayers,
Janet DiPalma

The "Goog" was a Rockaway Beach and P.S. 42 Queens, NY legend. His comedic wit and basketball skills will long be remembered. He was the best man at my wedding, and introduced me to my wife of 29+ years. I will shed a tear, say a prayer, and remember that "Goog was a Great Gambleq".

Gary, a Mets fan like me, and I bolted from work one afternoon last-minute and decided to try and get tickets for a Mets/Yankees World Series game. Gary was like a pro on the scalping scene, helping us get the best seats possible. When we found one guy selling them for $300 each, Gary looked straight into the guy's eyes and said, "If these tickets are bogus, I'm going to come back and find you." The guy was scared. We spent the afternoon signing up for every Mets credit card so we could get free Mets stuff. When when we finally got to the gate, our arms filled with Mets beach towels, bags, and hats, we were nervous and sweating, still wondering if our tickets were real. When we made it through, we screamed and yelled in relief and excitement. We were finally at the subway series we both dreamed about as kids. When my daughter was born, Gary gave her a baseball autographed by a major league pitcher he ran into at spring training. Thanks for the great memory Gary. I will always remember that day.
