Grace Rose (Porrello) Rubano, 97, of East Haven, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on August 30, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Pasquale C. Rubano, with whom she shared a beautiful life full of love and devotion. She was born in New Haven on February 7, 1927. Before marrying the love of her life, Grace studied opera under a Yale professor, and was filled with joy when she performed in the chorus of Madame Butterfly at the Shubert Theatre-a memory she held dear for all her days. She was the daughter of the late Josephine and Vincenzo Porrello. She was the loving mother of Pat (Cathy) Rubano, Kenneth (Kristine) Rubano, and Lucia (Prisco) Abate. She was a devoted grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her heart overflowed with love for her family, and she found her greatest joy being surrounded by them. Her love extended to her canine companions as well, especially her beloved Dobermans.
Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80),m East Haven Monday morning at 10:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the St. Pio Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii at 11:00. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. Friends may call MONDAY MORNING from 8:30 to 10:30. In lieu of flowers, donations in Grace's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
