James Swift Obituary

James "Swifty" W. Swift
James "Swifty" W. Swift, 83, of Milford, beloved husband of nearly 58 years to Helen Swift, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on March 17, 1941, in Chicopee, MA, he was the son of the late James and Eleanor Swift.
Swifty served his country in the United States Armed Forces, including a tour in Korea, from 1966 to 1969, and was honorably discharged in 1972. He and Helen settled in Milford, CT, where he worked for Merck & Co. for over 30 years. In his final years, he treasured his time as a member of the Cody-White Funeral Home family.
Swifty loved music, from the oldies to Neil Diamond and Jimmy Buffett, and at home, there was always music in the background. In retirement, he enjoyed golf (keeping the local pros busy with regular lessons), family vacations, and escaping south during New England winters. He loved breakfast from Mike's Deli, a well-poured Guinness, Archie Moore's Buffalo wings, and golden hour on the beaches of Block Island. But most of all, he cherished the moments when surrounded by friends and family, especially his kids and grandkids.
Along with his wife, Swifty leaves behind his children, Katie (RJ) Conners, Erin O'Neil, Ryan (Blythe) Swift, and Patrick (Nicole) Swift; grandchildren, Brendan and Aedan Conners, Matt, Ryan, Julia, and Liv O'Neil, Owen, Riley, and Fletcher Swift, and Charlotte and Brooklyn Swift; as well as many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brother, Tom Swift.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice in honor of Jim. Jim was my mentor when I started my career at Merck. I owe much of my success to him. Rest in peace, my friend.
