Jane Martin Obituary

MARTIN, JANE " DOLLY" Jane "Dolly" Theresa (Boyle) Martin, age 75, beloved wife of Maurice J. ("Moe") Martin, died peacefully at Griffin Hospital, Monday, January 21, 2013, with her family by her side. Dolly was born in Galway, Ireland on September 18, 1937 to the late Neil and Bridget (Delia) Fahy Boyle. She immigrated to the United States in 1964, and resided with her late sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Dr. Donald Roach for 10 years before meeting the love of her life, Moe. They were married 39 years on December 29, 2012. Dolly was employed for many years at Avco-Lycoming, Bunker-Ramo, and as a clerk for the City of Shelton Probate Court for 18 years during her husband's years as a Judge of Probate. Dolly was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Parish for many years before her marriage, where she prepared children for the sacrament of First Holy Communion. She was a devoted 40-year member of St. Joseph Parish, belonging to the Ladies Guild, where she was involved in many activities, most especially baking her Irish Soda Bread for the St. Patrick's Day Dance. Dolly was also a 40-year member of the Highland Golf Club, where she was a proud member of the "Highland Lassies"! She was also a member of the Shelton Democratic Ladies Committee and the Shelton High School Food Bank Adopt-A-Family. Dolly had a strong faith and lifetime devotion to St. Anthony. Dolly enjoyed her trips to North Carolina for golf vacations and her trips to the casinos, as well as her daily scratch offs from Wooster Street Market, where they will miss her smiling face! Dolly had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She would bring tears to your eyes when singing her favorite, "Danny Boy". She loved a good Irish jig and just having a grand time with her family and many, dear friends! Dolly is survived by her beloved husband, Moe, of which, "the sun rose and set", her 4 stepchildren and their children, Nancy Sturza and husband Dr. Jeffrey Sturza, Adam and Zachary of Greenwich, James Martin and wife Cindy, Haley, Caitlyn, and Max of Beacon Falls, Keron Martin, and Maurice ("Young Moe") Martin of Shelton, her siblings, Mary Lapera of Port Washington, NY, Philip Boyle and wife Susan Bernadette of Middleburg, VA, Rita Roach of Huntington, NY and Neil Boyle and wife Maura of Galway, Ireland. She is also survived by her brother-in-law William Martin, Jr, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Dolly also leaves her "Roach children", with whom she helped raise, Geraldine Jemioto of Ansonia, Kevin Roach of Alexandria, VA, Deirdre Roach-Ratta of Shelton, Christine Birden of Springfield, VA, Doreen Eisenman of Milford, and Brian Roach of Seymour. Also, Dolly leaves her beloved dog, "Farley" and many close and dear friends who meant the world to her. Dolly was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Gerard Roach and her niece and Goddaughter Nora Roach-Fox. Dolly was beautiful, always a lady, putting others before herself. As they say in Ireland, Dolly was great for a, "fag and a chinwag" (a cigarette & a chat). Anyone lucky enough to have Dolly in his or her life was lucky enough. "Faith and begorrah, a true Irish Lass" who will be deeply missed. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bardia Asgari and to the staff and doctors of Griffin Hospital ICU, and the Bishop Wicke Rehab Center for their loving and compassionate care of Dolly the past 2 months. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 24th from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the JAMES T. TOOHEY & SON FUNERAL HOME, 92 HOWE AVE., SHELTON. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, January 25th at 10:30 A.M. DIRECTLY in St. Joseph's Church, Shelton. Burial will be held in the Spring in Lawn Cemetery, Shelton. Auntie Dolly, Thank you for all you did for me growing up. I enjoyed sharing a bedroom with you at 40 Judson! Thank you for the fun times shared with you on family trips and with Iris and Judy. You made life growing up so much fun and how much I enjoyed our adult years together. You will always be in my heart. You were truly "one of a kind" making you the best lady and I am so honored for the important role you played in my life. "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand" I Love you, Geraldine
