With great love and deep sadness, we announce the death of Joan L. Holden (95), beloved wife of the late Dr. Jack Holden, loving mother, grandmother and aunt, on November 19, 2025. Born in New York City, October 14, 1930, she and her siblings were raised by her aunt and uncle, Julia and Rudolph Adler, in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. She graduated from Cornell's Nursing School
and worked at New York Hospital and later at the Yale Women's Health Center. While at New York Hospital, she met and married Jack Holden, a resident in urology. They moved to Orange, CT, in 1957, with two children and had three more.
She was loved for her boundless kindness and sunny personality, not only by her family and friends, but by her family's and friends' friends as well. She was a force of good in this world and will be sorely missed. She is survived by Marianne Holden (David), William Holden (Karen), Kenneth Holden (Fran), Barbara Sarcia, and Andrew Holden (Marla), as well as grandsons, Ethan
(Sydney), Aaron (Stephanie), Teddy, and Bryce, and granddaughters, Rachel, Ava, and Hannah.
Funeral services will be held at Congregation Or Shalom, 205 Old Grassy Hill Rd., Orange, on Friday Morning, November 21, at 11 a.m., with interment services to follow at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Derby Milford Road, Orange. The Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, New Haven, is in care of arrangements.
