Joyce Prostano Obituary
PROSTANO, JOYCE SCALA Joyce Scala Prostano passed away on January 15, 2014. She was born in New Haven, CT. She married Emanuel T. Prostano in 1952. They lived in Hamden, CT, and moved to Stuart, FL, in 1992. Joyce earned an A.S. degree at the University of Bridgeport, B.S. and M.S. degrees at Southern Connecticut State University and her Ed.D at Nova Southeastern University. Her work experience included: dental hygiene for the public school system through the New Haven Health Department; library media specialist in the demonstration program for the Sate of CT; director of the Learning Resource Center and adjunct member teaching children literature and curriculum materials courses for undergraduates at Southern Connecticut State University; designing and managing a comprehensive library learning resource center at Gateway Community College (formerly called South Central Community College) that included the library, audiovisual production, television center and management, speech communication and English composition at Gateway. She authored a professional text, School Library Media Center and a children’s book, Moofus & Friend with Emanuel. She was editor and co-owner with Emanuel of In-Time Publications, located in Science Park, New Haven and later, Stuart, FL. She was also a real estate broker in Connecticut. Joyce Prostrano is survived by her husband, Emanuel, son, Stephen Emanuel Prostrano, his wife Laura and three grandchildren, Taryn, Dana and Alex; daughter, Loren Joy Hayden, and her husband Charles and two grandchildren, Michael and Maddie; niece, Patricia Roberts, and her daughters, Alyssa, Brenna and Elayna. Those who preceded her in death were her father and mother, Charles and Elsie Scala, and sister, Elaine Mazeika and her husband Stanley Mazeika. Joyce was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart, FL. She served the church community through food preparation and serving at Carpenter’s Kitchen and a Eucharistic Minister, distributing Holy Communion to patients at Martin Memorial Hospital and Treasure Coast Hospice.
