Lawrence Poirier Obituary

Lawrence Poirier
Lawrence P. Poirier (Larry), 73 years old, of Moodus, Connecticut, died of Covid at Middlesex Hospital on December 17, 2021.
Lawrence was born on September 26, 1948, in Waterville, Maine to Joseph R. and Marie Russell Poirier, the oldest of four children. He graduated from Daniel Hand High School in Madison in 1967. After moving from Prospect to Madison in 1962, on the first day of attending classes in junior high school, he introduced himself to his new classmates as "Larry," a name his family never used but always known as Larry by friends since then.
Lawrence is survived by his sons, Liam Poirier of Killingworth, Erich Poirier and his wife Christina and his grandson Kayden of Moodus; his sister Anne Poirier Zangari and husband Matthew M. Zangari of Ellington and their children Jessica Salafia and husband Manny, Matthew J. Zangari and wife Carrie; and Adam Zangari and wife Jackie; Marie Poirier Hall and husband Steve Hall of Chester their children Donovan Hall and Stephanie Hills; his sister-in-law Paula Poirier of Bath, New Hampshire and sons Justin and Nathan Poirier. He was predeceased by his brother Ken A. Poirier of Bath, New Hampshire on November 10, 2021.
Lawrence joined the United States Air Force, was a Sgt. First Class, and proudly served the United States during the Viet Nam war. He was employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft when he returned from service in 1974 until he retired at the age of 70 in 2019.
His interest in American History ranged from the history of the Abenaki Indian to the American Revolution, to the Civil War and to World War II. He was proud of his Abenaki heritage and enjoyed participating in Abenaki ceremonies and powwows. The ceremonies started by praying to the Creator, Mother Earth, and Father Sky asking them to bless the grounds, the people who were there, and those who were not. He also participated with his sons in World War II reenactments in order to keep World War II history alive and in the public eye and to honor the veterans as well as preserving World War II artifacts.
The funeral will take place at the CT veteran cemetery in Middletown, CT on Thursday the 13th of January at 1 p.m. It is open to people who wish to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers any donations can be sent to the VFW in Moodus Connecticut a group which my father deeply believed in.
