Linda J. Burbela
Oct. 26, 2025
Linda Hazel Johnson Burbela, born April 28, 1948, passed from this world on Sunday, October 26th at Yale New Haven Hospital, while surrounded, serenaded and held by family. Linda lived in Madison for the past five decades, having grown up in Hamden and graduated from Hamden High School in 1966. She was the beloved only child of Marie and Dave Johnson. Linda graduated from Dean College in 1969, and in 1973 began her 40-year career working for the Town of Madison's Engineering office.
Always kind, loving and gentle, Linda had a smile and a good word for all. She met her husband, Joseph Mark Burbela, in the 1970s after he returned from his Navy service in Vietnam, and they were married on August 8, 1981. The following year, Linda and Joe welcomed the birth of their only child, Joseph David Burbela, who would become Linda's constant companion and source of loving mutual support after her husband's passing in 2016. Linda also is survived by her stepson, Mark Burbela (Vermont).
Linda had an easy smile and a wry sense of humor. She loved her family, cousins and friends. She was a long-time active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Linda remained positive, grateful and ever supportive of her son and family during her long and challenging journey with multiple chronic illnesses. She has now reached peaceful shores without pain.
A celebration of Linda's life will take place Saturday, December 13th at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 232 Durham Road, Madison CT 06443, and live-streamed at a link on the church homepage
