Lorraine Lorenze Obituary

Lorraine Lorenze
October 8, 2024
Lorraine Ann Lorenze (Castellazzo), of Branford, formerly of Guilford and Kiawah Island, SC, passed away peacefully at the age of 81, on October 8, 2024.
Lorraine was the loving wife of the late John Lorenze. Despite his recent passing, she remained a "pillar of strength" for her family. She leaves behind her two cherished children, Mark (Nancy) Lorenze and Amy (Todd) DeMarseilles, along with her six beloved grandchildren: Whitney, Zachary, Paige, Julia, Jack, and Will. Being a devoted "Nana" brought her immeasurable joy; her family was truly her world.
Born on November 21, 1942, Lorraine's early years were spent in Orange, CT, where she grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving extended family. She graduated from Amity High School in 1960 and later earned a degree in History and Teaching from Connecticut College.
Lorraine's career as a history teacher at Guilford High School and Hamden Hall Country Day School left a lasting impact on generations of students. With unwavering dedication, she created a nurturing environment where every student felt valued and encouraged to achieve their best. Her impeccable sense of style and graceful confidence added to the warm, welcoming presence she brought to the classroom and beyond.
Lorraine was known not only for her professional accomplishments but also for the deep relationships she built. As a devoted wife, loving mother, doting Nana, and loyal friend, Lorraine had an extraordinary ability to make those around her feel seen, heard, and cherished. Her warm smile, gentle touch, and sincere compassion brightened the lives of many, and to know her was a gift.
A private family celebration of Lorraine's life will be held. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to Connecticut Hospice in her honor. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, Guilford.

I had the privilege of having Mrs. Lorenze as one of my teachers in high school. She was a wonderful lady, and truly cared for her students. My deepest condolences to her family on their loss. She definitely was one of a kind, but she brought joy and happiness to a lot of people.

Mary and I shared many wonderful times together with Lorraine and John at Kiawah Island. These included dinners at our golf clubs and elsewhere. It is not an exaggeration to say that for 5 months of the year for over 15 years, we dined together about 2 times per week. We also spent many of the fall and winter holidays together. We shared many stories and had a lot of laughs. We will miss her.

Lorraine and I met when she was our son's history teacher and sponsored a trip to Europe: one the kids would never forget. I was a teacher/admin in another district and we found a great deal to share. and we reconnected when one of her grandsons and one of mine were playing youth baseball on the same team. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed by many. Heaven gained another angel.

Lorraine and I were best buddies. We loved each other and laughed together and absolutely drank together. I feel so sad and know we haven´t seen each other but were planning on connecting. So so sorry. Auntie Flora
