Louise Silverman Obituary

Louise M. Silverman
Louise M Silverman of Conway, South Carolina and formerly of Thomaston, Maine and Cheshire, Connecticut passed away at 83 on December 29, 2024.
Louise was the wife of the late Lewis Silverman. She was the first daughter of Maybelle and Frederick Bens. Louise is survived by her daughter Dana Johansen of Warren, Maine and two granddaughters Samantha Erisman and Sofie Johansen from California; her two sisters Doris Bens of Cheshire, Connecticut and Virginia Norton and her husband William of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Erika (Silverman) Rielly and her husband, Jimmy of Hamden, Connecticut and Tracy Silverman of Florida and Benjamen Silverman of Spain.
Louise was a graduate of Cheshire High School, Simmons College and Children's Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, and the University of Southern Maine. Her career as a dedicated healthcare professional included roles at Massachusetts General Hospital, Togas Veteran's Hospital, The Hospital of St. Raphael, Yale New Haven Hospital and the Endocrinology practice of Robert Lang MD specializing in Diabetes, Thyroid Disorders and Osteoporosis.
Louise was a compassionate clinician who was a genuine caring advocate for all her patients, particularly the underserved. She also excelled as an educator who generously shared her knowledge and experiences with students and colleagues alike.
Louise found joy socializing with her family and friends. She loved to drive and take long road trips searching for antiques with her husband and the Airedale from Canada to Florida. She was an avid reader and member of a book club; loved to cook and entertain offering delicious meals; attending musical performances from Café Nine to the New York Stage. She was very proud of her discovery of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan in their early careers in Boston. Louise had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having a good time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

I met Louise in 1998 working at the Yale Primary Care Clinic. She was a phenomenal Nurse Practitioner who took amazing care of her patients. The patients and their families loved her. She was very caring, kind, professional, and a joy to work with. She taught me so much and made me a better nurse. She was an incredible mentor to so many. She was a great friend and loved to cook. She was always trying new recepies and sharing. She loved entertaining at her home that she adored. She was very special to me and I will forever cherish the memories with her. Thank you Louise, may you rest in peace.... until we meet again. My sincerest sympathy to your family and friends.

So sorry to read of Louise passing. Met her when she worked in Hamden. She helped me with my diabetes - I'm fortunate to have met her and considered her my friend as well as a nurse I still miss her - she had the most positive and pleasant manner. There will never be any else like her. Sincere sympathy to you and your family.

I met Louise when I worked at the Primary Care Center at St Raphael's Hospital. She was an energetic, compassionate clinician and a wonderful role model on how to advocate for patients and for oneself. She was fun and she was lovely. May her memory be a blessing.

I was a long-time patient of Louise when she was in Hamden. She was a wonderful person and always upbeat. I remember the day she told me she was retiring and relocating to South Carolina. She was so excited about starting life in warmer weather and near the beach. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Heaven just got another Angel.
