MARILYN YATES Obituary

YATES, MARILYN WRIGLEY Marilyn Wrigley Yates, 83 of Wallingford, formerly of New Haven , passed away peacefully on January 15, 2015 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was born in New Haven on February 24, 1931 and was the loving mother of Kimberly Carew (James) of North Haven, Melissa Yates of Wallingford and Joseph F. Yates III of Charlotte, NC. Fondly remembered by four cherished grandchildren: Kaylyn and James Carew, Alistair Gemmell and Zachary Jehn. Also survived by a sister, Joan Edwards of East Haven. She was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Gertrude Wrigley and siblings, Rosemarie Niebank, Joyce Seymour and Peter Wrigley. For many years, Marilyn worked in her neighborhood at the Hall-Benedict Drug Co. in New Haven. Marilyn and her family shared good times and made many memories at their summer cottage in New Brunswick, Canada. She enjoyed cheering on the UCONN basketball teams and was an avid Red Sox fan, secretly enjoying the friendly rivalry among the Yankee fans in the family. She took great joy in watching her grandchildren perform, spending time first with friends in “the club” and then those at the gym, traveling and enjoying the companionship of her precious cat, Daisy. Marilyn’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and nurses that she had encountered over the past two years, especially Dr. Thomas Rutherford and his team at Smilow Cancer Hospital and the compassionate care given by those with Connecticut Hospice, especially Diana Wetmore-Monaco, RN and Kim Blair, CNA. Marilyn spent the last two years fighting a courageous battle with quiet dignity and selfless concern for those she loved. She found continued strength in her faith. Marilyn will be remembered as a kind and generous person who was a source of inspiration to her family and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, New Haven. Friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3 - 7 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marilyn’s name may be made to Discovery to Cure, c/o Yale School of Medicine, P.O. Box 7611, New Haven, CT 06519-0611 or Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405. To leave an online condolence please visit: www.siskbrothers.com

Kim, Missy, and Jody - My deepest sympathy for you and your families; she was such a special lady. Although it has been many years since I had seen her, I always remember her infectious grin and positive attitude and that she always had something nice to say (especially about her kids and grandkids!)
