Martin White Obituary

Martin A. White
August 4, 2022
Martin White, long-time resident of Guilford, CT, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022. He was born September 21, 1946 in Bridgeport, CT and was the son of the late Robert E. White and Ann M. White of Shelton. Martin was the devoted husband of Teresa Ann White of Guilford for 53 years. He was the father of Daniel M. White of Guilford, Brian M. White and wife Nicole L. White of Guilford. Martin is survived by his siblings James White and Georgiana White both of Shelton and his four grandchildren, Michael Saldana-White, Kenzie R. White, Benjamin P. White, and Nathan R. White and his four nephews and three nieces. Martin White was predeceased by his brother Robert White (Shelton); nephew Nicholas Carafeno (Guilford) and his two beloved children Sharon M. White and Michael P. White.
Martin was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where he earned his Masters Degree and played on the football team. As part of his education, Martin joined the OTC program and later proudly served as an officer in the United State Marine Corps. After his service to his country, Martin started his career in the CT State Police where he served for a period of over twenty years. As a part of his policing career, Martin had a variety of roles. He served as a resident trooper and as an investigator for the CT Major Crime Squad, a position he truly enjoyed. Martin was a dedicated member of the state police where he built lifelong friendships that served more as his extended family. After his retirement from the State Police, Martin became a fraudulent claims investigator for the Harford Insurance Company, where he applied his skills and passion for detective work. His second career provided him with a great deal of professional fulfillment and allowed him to continue to cultivate relationships with co-workers and people in the field. After his retirement from the Hartford Insurance Company, Martin served as a U.S. Marshal for the Federal Court in New Haven before retiring at the age of seventy.
Above all else, Martin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a passion for coaching football and did so actively at the high school and youth levels where he influenced not only the lives of his children and grandchildren but the lives of hundreds of student-athletes. His hard-working attitude was profoundly evident in the over 40 years of coaching a sport that he thoroughly enjoyed. Along with coaching, Martin also had a passion for studying history and would often tell stories and teach lessons to anyone that would listen to a seemingly endless amount of knowledge. Overall, for those that knew Martin, they know of his kind, easy-going nature, his impeccable comedic timing, and his devotion to loved ones. Martin could always be counted on to help friends and family in their time of need with no questions asked and no expectation of reciprocation.

Marty was the very best. Always so proud of his wonderful family. What a friend; what a partner. He was relentless in his investigations. We were all so proud and excited when Marty won the Investigator of the Year Award from the International Association of Special Investigation Units. He was a dedicated friend who couldn´t help you enough. The world will miss you Marty but we´ll meet again. Until then, you will always be in our prayers.

With deepest sympathy and sadness. I so remember football days; the year you had Sam help coach when our kids were in youth football. GHS Touch down Club. The realization that we had other connections through family (my Aunt Inez Shea) and through the state police force. Loved meeting you and Teresa as we exited or entered Walmart...so
much shared. Go with God.
