Roessler, Matthew Herbert Whalen
Matthew Herbert Whalen Roessler, age 47, of Shelton entered into rest on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 22 years to Laura Elizabeth Thompson. He was born in New Haven on October 17, 1970 the son of Audrey Theresa Whalen Roessler and the late Herbert Heinrich Roessler. Matt grew up in North Branford and has been a Shelton resident for over 20 years. He earned his Masters Degree and was working on his PhD. He is survived by his son Jacob Roessler; his daughters Hannah and Emily Roessler and his sisters Elizabeth Roessler, Katherine Stevens, and Cynthia Roessler. He will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westville Bible Chapel The Nigeria Fund, 201 Alston Ave., New Haven, CT 06515. Condolences can be directed to the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton.

I still have fond memories of the first time I met Matt in Nursery School and then our entire educational career from Cedar Lake School all the way to North Branford High. I can remember that we used to go to each other's birthday parties we would Buddy up on school field trips play on the playground at recess and as we got older because I only lived over on Sunset Road we could ride our bikes to each other's houses and play basketball or whatever. Matt had a very large and kind heart and an easy going personality. He also had a great sense of humor could tell a joke and take a joke. I'm sorry that we had lost contact not too long after high school he is somebody I definitely would have loved to have kept in contact through the years. I wish to express my deepest heartfelt condolences to his family and May the peace oh God comfort you all during this difficult time.

I will never forget Matt's kindness when he carried me home after I badly injured myself down the shore many years ago.
