Michael Moore Obituary

Michael Kelly Moore
Michael Kelly Moore, 74, of Orange, beloved husband of Susan Moore, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023 with his wife by his side. Born on January 31, 1949, in New Haven, he was the son of the late Richard and Helen (Kelly) Moore.
Michael grew up in Shelton, spending summers in Bayview Beach of Milford. He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Trumbull and went onto Southern CT State University, where he studied education and continued on to receive his Master's Degree. He taught 6 years in the New Haven Public School system before moving to California with his wife, Carol, and son, Tony. While in California, he worked in sales for 21 years. The passing of his wife, Carol prompted Michael and Tony to move back to Connecticut. Michael resumed his teaching career in New Haven until his retirement. He also taught night classes at Gateway Community College for many years. Michael had a passion for teaching and touched many lives.
Michael had a love of cycling and running, he even trained and ran the Hartford Marathon. He loved swimming, kayaking and especially singing in his church choir, where Susan and Michael first met. They shared 18 wonderful years together, enjoying travel, getting together with beloved friends, especially "The Solids" and sharing the many adventures life brought to them. One of the great joys of Michael's life was becoming a grandfather to five amazing boys. This was incredibly special to Michael and he treasured the title of Grandpa.
In addition to his wife, Susan, Michael is survived by his children, Michael Spence, Libby (Kurt) Buckholz, Geoffrey (Erin) Spence; precious grandchildren, Max and Ryan Spence, Jake and Luke Buckholz and John Spence; cherished nieces and nephews, Roberta (Greg) Thomas Mancuso, Randy (Kim) Thomas, and Jody Thomas; as well as several great-nieces and a great-nephew. Michael was predeceased by his wife, Carol Thomas Moore; son, Anthony Mendes; and brother, Richard Moore.
Michael had an amazing ability to connect to people. He was so loved and he will be missed every day. Susan would like to thank the amazing nurses and doctors at Yale as well as his visiting nurse, Balise, for their loving care of Michael over the past few years. Rev. Matt Lindeman, also needs to be recognized for his endless support and spiritual guidance during many difficult times. Susan is truly grateful for all the support she and Michael have received.

Mr. Moore was a class act and knew how to treat people with kindness and respect! It was a pleasure to be his colleague in NHPS. He also treated the students the same way. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends!
