Nina Sanseverino Obituary

Nina Pane Sanseverino
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear aunt, sister and friend, Ann (Nina) Pane Sanseverino, of New Haven, who passed away on September 10, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Anna Elizabeth Pane in New Haven, CT on December 2, 1939 to the late Luigi and Giuseppina Pastore Pane. She followed in her mother's musical footsteps as a singer of Italian music, especially the Canzone Napoletana, performing on stage for the first time with her mother at the age of 3. She later adopted the stage name "Nina" and performed for more than 75 years touring and singing with many of Italy's finest performers, including Nunzio Gallo, Claudio Villa, Domenico Modugno and Peppino DiCapri, as well as American artists Lou Monte, Vincent Gardenia, Paul Anka and Bobby Vinton. She was recognized by the City of New Haven, the State of Connecticut, the U.S. Congress and numerous Italian American civic organizations for her philanthropy and contributions to Italian music and culture. No words are truer than the ones engraved on one of the awards she received: "Her voice and her art are a tribute to both of her parents as well as to the Canzone Napoletana, of which she is one of the principal exponents". Nina is predeceased by her beloved husband, Emilio Sansverino Jr., her sister, Josephine Lawrence and nephews Steven and Mark DeMatteo. She leaves a brother, Gaetano(Sonny) Pane and a sister, Louise DeMatteo; her best friend, caretaker and "daughter," Donna Massaro; her nieces Linda Nelson, Maria Demetriades, and Debra Golembieski; nephews Fred Lawrence, Joseph Lawrence and Louis Pane and a multitude of friends and fans who adored her and loved her beautiful voice, including special friends, Sherry Bruder-Fucci, Melissa Vitti and Aaron Caruso. The family wished to acknowledge and thank the nurses, aides and staff at the Mary Wade Home and Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care for the loving and compassionate care they provided to Nina.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Per order of the City of New Haven, masks are required for all in attendance. Memorial contributions in Nina's name made be made to the Mary Wade Home 118 Clinton Ave. New Haven, CT 06513. Share a memory and sign Nina's guest book online at www.iovanne.com

My sincere sympathy to Nina's family and friends.
Her kindness and beautiful voice will always be remembered. Our choir always looked forward to her joining us on Christmas Eve to sing Oh Holy Night.
I will always remember her singing for my grand Mother's 90th Birthday. She brought us so much joy. She is now an angel singing with her Mother in heaven.
I will miss her.
