I knew Phil for all 18 years of his service at The University of New Haven. I served as his University Registrar and was delighted to have him as a mentor and friend. I remember his love for books and travel. He was a scholar and certainly a gentleman. UNH was so fortunate to have him as a leader with visions of a strong and progressive university. God bless and be well my friend.

I am so sorry to read about Dr Kaplan's passing. My dad James Bensen served with Phil on the UNH Board and thought the world of him. Dr Kaplan was an inspiration to all he knew.

Dear Kaplan Family,
I had the honor of meeting President Kaplan at the University of New haven and always had a friendly conversation. Over the next 40 years, I met him again at libraries in this area. He and my late Uncle Paul Goodwin, knew each others from years go, It is with regrets that I write this note, he was indeed a kind person, friendly to all, and a special man. I offer deep condolences to you family, at this difficult time.
With regrets, Betty R. Goodwin, and Goodwin Families.
