RALPH PROTO Obituary

PROTO, RALPH L., SR. Ralph L. Proto, Sr. of New Haven died peacefully December 3, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital - St. Raphael Campus. He was the husband of Norma H. Proto. Ralph was born in New Haven, January 2, 1930, a son of the late Alphonse and Anna Criscuolo Proto. He served his country with honor in the Air Force during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he began a career as an office equipment technician for Underwood Typewriter Co. and later for Reliance Business Machines. Ralph was the recipient of the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford and was inducted, along with his wife Norma, as a Notre Dame Knight of Honor in 1993. Besides his wife, Ralph is survived by his sons Ralph (Anna Marie), James (Christine), Paul (Jane), Mark (Frances) and David (Karen) Proto, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his sisters-in-law Rose Durante Proto and Carol Hodak Proto and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Rita Eleanor Proto and brothers Louis A., Alfonso and Michael Proto. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 11 Wooster Pl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Brendan Church Monday morning at 10. Burial with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Dear Norma. We haven't seen Ralph or you in ages at church. Saddened for your loss. Ralph was a fine man and a wonderful giving person. It's been a privalage to come to know you both at st Brendan's church. He always had a twinkle in his eye!

I remember Mr. Proto Sr. and his wife and whole family sitting in the pew at St. Brendan Church in the 60s. Please celebrate the wonderful Christian life he enjoyed. My prayers are for the entire Proto family. May God sustain you at this time.
