Raymond Hoye Obituary

Raymond F. Hoye
Raymond F. Hoye, age 81, of Shelton, entered into eternal rest after a lengthy illness on Saturday, July 15, 2023 in Bridgeport Hospital with his beloved wife of 51 years, Cheryl M. (Ermalowicz) Hoye by his side. Mr. Hoye and his wife spent winters at their home in Indiana River Shores, Vero Beach, Florida after their retirement. He was born on August 26, 1941, in Derby, son of the late William J. and Kathryn (Lane) Hoye. Raymond attended Shelton High School and Southern Connecticut State University. Mr. Hoye spent nearly 50 years in the newspaper business working first as a reporter and sports writer for the former Ansonia Evening Sentinel. He became city editor of the Sentinel in 1965. Mr. Hoye joined the New Haven Register in 1968 and worked as a copy editor, weekend news editor, and wire editor. He became news editor of the Register in 1981 serving in that role until his retirement in 2008. He also worked part-time as a copy editor for the Hartford Courant in the 1970's. Mr. Hoye served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve as a military intelligence interpreter from 1963 to 1969. He was also a former member of the Shelton Democratic Town Committee, Derby Lodge of Elks, Connecticut Sports Writers and associate member of the Highland Golf Club. He was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame of the lower Naugatuck Valley in 2012. He was an avid fan of UCONN Basketball and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Team. Besides his wife Cheryl, Raymond is survived by his sisters-in-law Elaine Hoye of San Diego, CA, and June Hoye of East Lyme, CT, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, William and John Hoye, a former state representative, and a sister, Sr. Mary Presentation Hoye. Friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday June 18, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. His funeral procession will leave the parlor at 11:30 a.m. for his Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton.
