RHEA KAETZ Obituary

KAETZ, RHEA (SIMKIN) Rhea (Simkin) Kaetz, widow of Dr. Harvey Kaetz, died on March 6, 2015 at Whitney Center in Hamden, Connecticut. She was born August 13, 1919 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, graduated from Pittsfield High School and Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing in Boston and New Haven. She is survived by her three children: Deborah (Halifax, Nova Scotia), David (Hornby Island, British Columbia) and his wife Elisabeth Haas, and Susan (Vashon, Washington) and one granddaughter, Avia Moore. Rhea is the last surviving member of her immediate family which consisted of seven children. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their children. Rhea was a devoted wife to Harvey, who had practiced as a family physician and then a member of the staff of the Yale Health Plan, with a specialty in hematology and oncology. She was also devoted to her three children. She loved summers on Martha’s Vineyard where the family had a summer house for many years. For the past twelve years she has lived at Whitney Center where she became part of a wider family of residents and staff. A memorial reception will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 3-5 at Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Drive, Hamden, Connecticut.

Rhea and Harvey were longtime friends of my parents, Gertrude and Robert Cooper, and I remember them both with great fondness for their warmth and good cheer. Harvey was also my father's physician. In their later years after they loast their husabands both Rhea and my mother moved into Whitney Center. Rhea was my mother's best firend there; she was always so caring and kind. I will miss her and am sorry I didnt have a chance to say goodbye. -- Peter Kupfer (Cooper)
