Robert J. Gehm, Jr.
Robert J Gehm Jr, 92, of Bethany, CT, passed away at Waterbury Hospital on Sunday, May 19, 2024, after a brief illness. Robert was born to the late Robert J. Sr and Aurlie Gehm in Terry Town, NY, June 12, 1931. He graduated from North Terry Town High, class of 1948. In 1951, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Korea. In the fall of 1955, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on the G.I. Bill and received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. After a long career in the engineering field, he retired from RSCC Wire & Cable in 1996.
Robert spent his retirement years in Green Pond, New Jersey. He was a member of the Green Pond Yacht Club for over 50 years and, in 2001, he was elected Commodore.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Gehm of Branford, and his two sons, Robert A. Gehm of Bethany, John (Toby) Gehm of Hamden, his 4 grandchildren, John P Gehm Jr., Brian (Stephanie) Gehm, Alyssa (John) Sopet, Ethan (Olivia) Gehm, and his 5 great-grandchildren. He was devotedly married for 71 years to his late wife, Margaret Holtz Gehm. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Eleanor Gardener, (FL/NJ) and Alana Schuyler (NY).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 210 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT. Burial will take place at a later date.
