He was the beloved husband of 53 years to the late Vera Bolash Muthersbaugh. Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, October 13, 1921, a son of James and Helen Jasinski Muthersbaugh. He is survived by a son Richard E. Muthersbaugh Sr., a grandson Richard Muthersbaugh Jr., great-grandchildren Jessica Correa and Teela Brewer and great-great-grandchildren Salvador Correa Jr., Andrea Correa, Jayden Brewer, and Damien Brewer. Muthersbaugh, sisters-in-law Lydia "Betty" Bolash and Anna Bolash, and a grandson Robert A. Muthersbaugh III.
Known as Bob or Buck, he graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport in 1939 and proudly served his country during WWII in France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia for 3 ½ years in the 3rd Army in the 12th and 16th Armored Infantry Division. He was a highspeed International Morse Code Radio Operator. His vehicle was the first one into Pilzen, Czechoslovakia, when they were liberated from the Germans. Bob was awarded medals for Good Conduct, the American Campaign, the European-African-Middle East Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation with Germany Clasp, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Soldiers' Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star. After retiring, he went to work in security for Yale University Sterling Memorial Library and Cross Campus Library where students taught him a few words in 22 languages, finally retiring once again in 1998.
Bob was a proud and active member of the Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in New Haven for over 60 years and served on the Church council, was past President of the CT Russian Orthodox Laymen's League, and the Ladies' and Men's Auxiliary. He was named parishioner of the year in 1977. Bob was a goodwill ambassador and personally welcomed new faces in church as well as new families on his street. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell and a little magic for children in church.
Pursuing their shared hobby of bird watching, Bob and Vera had over 40 flowering trees and shrubs, loaded with bird feeders and even a heated bird bath. Avid ballroom dancers, they were members of several local dance clubs.

Ruthie

Dear Uncle Buck, there are no words that could really tell you how much I love you and miss you. You truly are the example of how all uncles should be: kind, empathetic, friendly, witty and just wonderful. How fortunate that you are ours. Give Aunt Vera a kiss for me and ask her to give you one, too. I´ll be seeing you. All my love, Ruthie
