Robert Oliver Obituary

Robert Daniel Oliver, Sr.
Robert Daniel Oliver Sr., of Milford, CT, beloved husband of Barbara Brotherton Oliver, passed away peacefully at home, on May 21, 2024 on his 88th birthday. He was born in Milford and was the son of the late Peter H. Oliver Sr. and Mary CapaBianco Oliver.
In addition to Barbara, his beloved wife of 67 years, he is also survived by his five children: Deborah Oliver Clifford (James), Kevin Oliver (Lori), Maureen Oliver Gerardi (David), Robert Oliver Jr. (Sharon), and Patrick Oliver (Cynthia). He was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Molly, Ashley, Kaitlin, Kristin, Morgan, Connor, Griffin, Casey, Taylor, Hailey, and Brooke. He was additionally blessed with three great-grandchildren: Colby, Teddy, and Miles. In addition, he leaves behind his brother Ernest Oliver (Penny), his sister Margaret Wendel (Calvin), countless loving nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog and constant companion Daisy. He was predeceased by his brother Peter Oliver Jr., his sisters Mary Lou Filanowski, and Patricia Campbell.
Bob attended West Main Street School and Milford High School. He began his working career at the age of 14 at Secondi Brothers Truck Stop helping his mother support his family. Bob worked at Secondi's until he retired as the general manager at age 60. The majority of his career was spent working the night shift, where he was affectionately known as "Red". He will be remembered as a gentle, humble man, who enjoyed every day. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke. He cherished his family, his many friends and his loving wife Barbara. He was known and loved by many as an amazing friend, a great dad, a wonderful grandfather, and had the privilege of being a great-grandfather. He was a dependable guy. who would do anything for anyone, without looking for credit or for anything in return. Bob was very social and enjoyed life to the fullest. Among his many interests were golf, bowling, Pinochle, going to the casino, and Friday night was always reserved for cocktail hour with his wife and friends. Bob was a huge sports fan. He loved and rooted for the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. His favorite sports teams, though, were the ones on which his children and grandchildren played. He sometimes traveled many miles to root for them. He was their biggest fan. Bob was an avid golfer. In addition to his golf league and numerous golf tournaments, he played every Wednesday with his good friends. They often played at different golf courses throughout the state. The perfect ending to a great day of golf was sharing time with them back at the 19th hole, "The Shack". Bob was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary Church, where he was an usher at 10:00 Mass every Sunday, for over fifty years. His family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Trumbull Smilow Care Center and Hospice Home Care Plus for the compassionate care they provided.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford.
