Ronald Greski Obituary

Ronald V. Greski
Ronald V. Greski, peacefully departed this life on January 13, 2022, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family and compassionate aides, by his side. A proud product of Ansonia's "North End," Ron was an outstanding athlete and devoted public servant. He was elected City Treasurer an unprecedented 15 terms (30 years), spanning multiple municipal administrations.
Born August 21, 1941. he was the son of Victor and Mary Brenia Greski. He was a faithful communicant of the Church of the Assumption, graduate of Assumption School, Ansonia High School, 1959 and American International College A.I.C., 1963. He was a multi-sport athlete excelling in both football team (quarterback) and captain of the basketball team (center) being inducted into the Ansonia High School Hall of Fame in 1988.
One basketball writer referred to Ron as the "Classic Big Man" due to his size 6'4", dominating the backboards. He was known to say: "Once the ball came in to me, it was going only one place: to the basket!" As a high scoring center, Ron averaged 21 points per game in his senior year for the "Lavender" under Coach Charles J. "Boots" Jarvis. Proud of his free throw ability, his greatest thrill was sinking two free throws, as time expired, to defeat top ranked Sacred Heart 50-49. His success continued at A. l .C., as a sophomore, where he matched up against UConn's 6'11 center, and Naugatuck native, Ed Slomzenski, scoring 18 points and snaring a bushel of rebounds. Ron was proud that future UConn Coach Jim Calhoun would attend A.I.C., following Ron's senior year.
After college he was employed as a financial analyst for TIE Communications, Shelton. Ron belonged to multiple fraternal, social and athletic organizations. He was active in city-wide leagues playing for the C.W.V., Derby, Norwood's, Marvin Shoes and the Central Subalpi Club. But he was most proud of his legion of friends, fellow athletes, the loving community he was a large part of and served as it's City Treasurer.
He leaves his beloved sisters Lorraine Greski and Veronica (Paul) Pinchuk, both of Ansonia.
Family and Friends are invited to attend public walk - through calling hours on Tuesday Jan. 18 from 3-6p.m. masks must be worn in the Bennett Funeral Home 91 N. Cliff St. Ansonia. On Wednesday friends and relatives are invited to his mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Assumption at noon and masks must be worn. Burial will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to The Church of the Assumption or ORTV in care of the Funeral Home.

I recall a few precious memories of Ron, or as I jokingly called him, Ray. Years ago I asked him what his favorite meal was that I could make for him. He wanted a philly steak sandwich. He gave me an A-... stating there was too much bread. Hahaha.. From that point forward he graded everything that I made. Most recently we sat up until 3am, talking about the UConn Women's basketball team. He was trying to recall a certain player's name. We went through every roster until we found her name, Swin Cash- the 2002 game against Oklahoma. He recalled the final score and details of the game. I was so excited that we found who he was looking for, until he then wanted me to do chair exercises with him after that. Haha. I will miss your sarcastic humor, inspiring zest for life and our late night/early morning talks about politics, religion, foreign affairs and, of course, sports. Be at peace, my friend- a long deserved peace. You were a faithful servant and God must be very pleased.
To Lorraine and Veronica, I offer my heartfelt prayers and sorrow during this most difficult time. May God bring you both HIS loving peace. I am here for you.
- Much love, Moira

Every time someone would say the name Ron Greski I would always pop up and proudly say that´s my cousin and godfather. We grew up as neighbors but as the years past health and different things brought us apart . But I ALWAYS thought about you. I know you are not suffering now. I have another angel in heaven . Love you always . Lynnie
