Rosalind Dudden Obituary

Rosalind Farnam Dudden
September 27, 2023
Rosalind Farnam Dudden, 78, of Golden, Colorado, passed away on September 27, 2023. Roz had wisdom, intelligence, and a great sense of humor, and was loving and caring towards those around her. Roz is survived by her husband, Jim Mills; her daughter, Laura Dudden; her grandson, Julian Dudden; and her siblings, Nancy Charles, Margot McKnight, George Farnam, and Jim Farnam. All her friends and family will miss her very much. Her oldest sister, Anne Farnam, predeceased her. Roz met Jim Mills on July 4, 1997. Roz was born in New Haven, CT, to George Bronson Farnam and Nancy Forgan Farnam. She grew up on her parents' dairy farm in Wallingford, where she was active in 4-H and enjoyed horse riding and showing her cow, Cora. Roz attended The Foote School, followed by Day Prospect Hill School, both in New Haven. She graduated from Finch College in New York City (1966). Her love of skiing took her to Colorado, where she taught skiing in Aspen before moving to Denver, her home for the rest of her life. She went on to earn a Masters in Library Science at the University of Denver in 1970. Roz worked as a Medical Librarian at Mercy Hospital for 15 years and National Jewish Health for 25 years. Her dedication and expertise in her field made a significant impact on the medical community. She was instrumental in developing use of the internet in medical libraries in Colorado and nationally, promoted the early use of email, and created the first website for National Jewish Health in 1995. She served as president of the MLA Hospital Libraries Section, the MLA Research Section, and the Colorado Council of Medical Libraries. She authored or co-authored several books, including the "Medical Library Association Guide to Managing Health Care Libraries (2011)", and 30 articles. The Medical Library Association presented her with its President's Award in 2003 and its highest honor, the Marcia C. Noyes Award, for lifetime achievement in 2013 (Oral history: https://bit.ly/rozd ). Roz was an avid skier, hiker, cook, and traveler with her beloved husband, Jim Mills. She skied well into her 70s and hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in 2010. She enjoyed various hobbies, including ceramics, knitting, watercolor painting, and Zentangles. She was a longtime active parishioner at the Church of the Ascension, Denver, and the Jefferson Unitarian Church, Golden. A memorial will be held at Jefferson Unitarian Church, Golden, CO. on Saturday, October 28th, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Saint Francis Center ( http://www.sfcdenver.org/ ).

Roz was a long-time volunteer at St. Francis Center in Denver, a place that offered services to unhoused people. She was committed to the Center and to the hundreds of people who used their services. Roz was both a kind person and an advocate for those who are most vulnerable in our community. She is missed.
Rest in Peace dear friend.
