Ruth FitzGerald Obituary
4/27/1931-5/25/2022
Ruth M. FitzGerald (nee McNamara), age 91, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family. Beloved wife for 49 years of the late William F. FitzGerald, Jr. Predeceased by her parents, Martin J. and Ruth A. McNamara; sister Dorris McNamara Conoly; and sons William F. and James M. FitzGerald. Survived by her son John T. FitzGerald and daughter Ellen M. FitzGerald and her three grandchildren: James, Erin, and Katherine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in the memory of Ruth to the James M. FitzGerald '80 Fund for Hockey, Portsmouth Abbey School, 285 Cory's Lane, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
The funeral procession will assemble on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 9 a.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, and will proceed to a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 59 Sheffield Street, Old Saybrook.

So sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. A kind neighbor and friend. When we had very first moved to town and I had just had our first child, Alice, I locked myself out of our house. Your Mom was so wonderful as I knocked on her door and introduced myself and my newborn in the baby bucket ;) She so kindly invited me into her home and watched over Alice as I made the necessary calls. Sorry to not have seen more of her over the Covid-years but will hold to very nice neighborly exchanges throughout those other years. Dear John and Ellen,
We have many wonderful memories of Ruth and Fitz. Lobster parties, SNET get togethers. Ruth was always laughing. She was a wonderful friend and lady. She loved her family dearly. She has joined Fitz, Bill and Jimmy to shape them all up!
We have you in our thoughts and prayers.
