VINCENT B. BONITO

1923 - 2015

BONITO, VINCENT B. Vincent B. Bonito, 92, of Wallingford, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. He was the loving husband of the late Rose Gagliardi Bonito. Vincent was born in Minori, Italy, located on the Amalfi Coast, March 9, 1923, a son of the late Domenico Bonito and Rachele Lamberti Bonito. Vincent was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 407th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He later attended and was a graduate of both Syracuse University and Columbia University. Vincent was employed as a foreign language professor and began his teaching career at Hamden High School, and Trumbull High School. He was also a longtime and well respected professor at Southern CT. State University, as well as several other schools and colleges throughout Connecticut, until his retirement in 1997. During the months of July and August he enjoyed teaching in Urbino, Italy. He was also a member of the Choate Rosemary Hall Community, where he served as a Paul Mellon Arts Center Security Officer. Vincent was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and SS. Peter and Paul Church and a member of the choirs. He enjoyed music, singing, playing the piano and guitar, cooking, and home cooked Italian food. During the Christmas holiday, Vincent would create the family “Presepio” (large nativity scene.) which became an annual Bonito tradition. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel C. Bonito of Wallingford; four sons, Mark V. Bonito and his wife Susan of Mendon, MA., Denis D. Bonito, Damian P. Bonito and Paul Bonito, all of Wallingford; his granddaughter, Arianna C. Bonito; his sister Trofimena “Dolly” McGee of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary A. Bonito; his brother Salvatore P. Bonito, and his cousin, Vincent Lamberti. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Rd., Wallingford. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Office of Radio and Television of the Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT. 06712-1052, or to Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 North Colony Rd, Wallingford, CT. 06492.
