Vincent A. Romei Sr., 88, of Woodbridge, died on July 13, 2022, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in West Haven on September 1, 1933, a son of the late Michael and Josephine (Calandro) Romei. Survived by his beloved wife 66 years, Lois (DelGuidice) Romei; loving children Michael Romei of East Haven, Laurene (Dennis) Thompson of Bethany, and Vincent Romei Jr. of Woodbridge; grandchildren Vince, Paige, and Michael Romei; sisters Theresa Cusano, Carmela (Paul) Lubenow, and Patricia GaNun; brother Michael Romei; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother Joseph Romei.
A graduate of West Haven High School, wherein he met and married his sweetheart, Vincent excelled in numerous sports, a pastime that would remain one of his favorites his entire life. Deciding on a career in accounting, he pursued his higher education within both Central Connecticut Teachers College and New Haven College.
A quintessential businessperson with an unending work ethic, Vincent served as partner and treasurer of L.G. DeFelice Construction Company, The Colony Inn of New Haven, and was a founding member of the Bank of New Haven. An enthusiastic proponent of community involvement, Vincent served as Chairman of the New Haven Visitors Convention Bureau and President of the Chapel West SSD until March 2021. Additionally, he was an active member and coach within the Woodbridge Father's Baseball League.
He was long considered to be one of the most kind and giving persons one could imagine, illustrated by the vast lengths of his help toward family and friends. Family was extremely important to him and to his last days, he always made sure they were taken care of. His unwavering devotion and loyalty were chiefly dedicated to those he knew and loved, second to that, the New York Yankees, and New York Giants.
Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 18, from 8:30 to 10:30am. A formal procession will depart the funeral home at 10:45am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Woodbridge, at 11 o'clock. Interment will immediately follow in Milford Side Burying Ground, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Vincent's honor to Amity Charitable Trust, P.O.
