Wendell Goldsmith Obituary

Wendell Goldsmith
1942-2025
Wendell L. Goldsmith Jr. passed away on November 10, in Florida following complications from a fall. The son of Wendell Sr. and Hazel Goldsmith, Wendell was born and raised in New Haven. He was a member of the class of 1960 from Hamden Hall Country Day School. In 1964, he graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, where he met his wife, Nancy Titley Goldsmith. Wendell and Nancy lived in Northford, Connecticut, where they raised their family. They retired together to the Villages of Florida.
At various times in his life, Wendell worked in medical supply sales, real estate, and as a croupier at Mohegan Sun. In all facets of his life, he loved meeting, talking to, and learning from the people around him. Aside from his family, Wendell's greatest love was baseball. He spent over 50 years as a member of the Greater New Haven Umpires Association. He was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of UConn sports.
Along with his wife, Wendell leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, David and Melissa Goldsmith, a daughter and son-in-law, Alaine and Sean Brittell, and two granddaughters, Cameron and Avery Brittell. His family and friends will miss him dearly. There are no services planned. The family asks instead that you raise a glass and toast his memory.

I wish that a senior year photo from HH was included. I was not in his class so it would be nice to see him as I would remember him better.
My sincere condolences to the family. Many Blessings...

PS: Sounds like lots of our HHers are now in Florida. I just moved from Gainesville to France. Wish i had known about the HHers in Fla while I was there for 15 years.

Purely by chance, I ran into Wendell at The Villages about 5 years ago. I sang the Hamden Hall song to him and he mouthed the words along with me and finally he recognized me. What serendipity. My hugs to Nancy and family.

I was in the same class with Wendell at H.H. He was a sweet, warm guy -- I was always happy to see him. Ours was a small class (25 of us, I think), so you got to know people well -- I always think of Wendell with great affection. My love to his family. Janie Galvin Tamarkin '60.

Condolences to the family of Wendell. As a teen in the early 1970s I umpired for the Hamden Fathers League and Wendell was one of my mentors. Shared his love and knowledge of the game with a kid who never forgot him
