George Zydel Obituary
Vernon - George J. Zydel, age 81 of Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 at the Chilton Medical Center.
Born in Jersey City to the late Frank and Helen (Kozakiewicz) Zydel, George lived in Secaucus and Hasbrouck Heights before settling in Vernon in 1976. A US Army veteran, George tirelessly served his community. His service in the volunteer fire department spanned over sixty years and three departments. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and camping.
Predeceased by his parents; daughter Kristine Zydel; and sisters Veronica Zydel and Stella Morisett, George is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Elston) Zydel; children Corrine Davidson and husband Marc of Vernon, George Zydel, Jr. and wife Julie of Marshfield, MA, and Bruce Zydel of Locust, NJ; grandchildren Megan, Natalie, Sophia, Jake, Allysun, and Grace Zydel; and his sister, Irene Rubes; and brother, Edward Zydel.
Visitation for George will be held on Sunday, June 27th, 2021 from 4-8PM at the Ferguson—Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, (One Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, NJ 07462. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, June 28th, 10AM at the Saint Francis de Sales RC Church in Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vernon Fire Department.
