Robert L. Poe

1937 - 2017

PISECO, N.Y. - Robert L. Poe, 80 of Piseco, N.Y., passed away Thursday July 20, after a short illness.
Bob was born on May 26, 1937, in Hamburg, the son of Robert Poe and Mildred Hunt.
Bob graduated from Newton High School in 1955 where he lettered in football and baseball. He graduated from Teterboro School of Aeronautics in 1957, and later worked for Curtis-Wright Electronics in Carlstadt, and Eastern Airlines in Miami, Fla.
Bob was the first baseman for the Newton AA Baseball team from 1958-1973, winning the state title in 1967. His dedication to baseball led him to coach Little League for 11 years and Babe Ruth for three.
He served as president of the Fredon Board of Education for 11 years, continuing his dedication to serving youth and developing education.
He was a member of the original Centerville Rod and Gun Club from 1960 until the club disbanded in 1986.
Moving back to New Jersey in 1963, Bob began work as a masonry helper until starting his own business, Poe Masonry, est. 1966, was a well-recognized and sought after company until his retirement in December of 2005.
He always enjoyed hunting, baseball, golf and ice fishing. Later in life, he became a snowmobiling enthusiast. He and Judith moved to Piseco, N.Y., in 2005 to take full advantage of many seasons of snowmobiling trips. He was a member of the Pleasant Riders Snowmobile Club and served as a board member for many years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim; and his son, Rick.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Judith; daughter, Patti; sons, Michael and David; Brad Hall, Brenda Scales; grandchildren, Tyler and Caity Elliott, Cristian, Orlando, Brittany, Morgan, Zach, Nick and Sydney Poe, Brandon and Tori Hall; as well as great-grandchildren, Chloe and Lillie.
Bob will be missed by a broad circle of dedicated friends in both New Jersey and New York. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
