Salvatore Sorce Obituary

STILLWATER - Salvatore "Sam" T. Sorce, 84, of Stillwater, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at home.

Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Sorce lived in Brooklyn before moving to Stillwater 10 years ago. He was an auto mechanic for 25 years at Reliable Transmissions in Queens, N.Y., then worked as a bus driver for 10 years before his retirement. A member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Swartswood, Mr. Sorce was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed dancing, bowling and baseball.

The son of the late Joseph and Antonina Sorce, Mr. Sorce is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances; three children, Joseph Sorce and his wife, Lorraine, of Massapequa, N.Y., Maria Sgammato and her husband, Jimmy, of Montgomery, and Richard Sorce and his wife, Cami, of Vernon; nine grandchildren, Joseph, Chuck, Nicole, Tom, Richie, Michael, Dan, Patrick and Andrew; a sister, Marcy Suger, of Stillwater; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Swartswood. Interment will follow in Stillwater Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
