Todd Trudgeon Obituary

ALLAMUCHY - Todd E. Trudgeon, age 56, of Allamuchy, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Newton Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Newton, he had lived there for most of his life before moving to Allamuchy 20 years ago.

A graduate of the Newton High School class of 1977, he graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1983, earning his bachelor's degree in health and physical education. Todd had a long and rewarding career as a dedicated health and physical education teacher with Dover High School, where he also served as the cross country and wrestling coach.

A loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to many, Todd enjoyed playing golf, softball and volleyball, running and staying active. He was a member of the Sparta Bowling League, and for the past 30 years worked as a summertime groundskeeper for the Newton Public School system. Todd was looking forward to his retirement and spending more time with his family, friends and on the golf course.

Mr. Trudgeon was predeceased by his father, Edward T., in 1999; survivors include his beloved mother, Virginia (Mack) Trudgeon of Newton; his sister Deborah T. and her husband, Thomas Maehrlein, of Sussex and his brother John and his wife, Cathy Trudgeon, of Lexington, Va. Also surviving are his uncles, Thomas and Fred Trudgeon; his aunt June Emery; his nephew Joshua T. Trudgeon; as well as his cousins Thomas and Tim Trudgeon, William and Nancy Emery, Ellen, Joseph and David Fedorak, Lucy Mickley, Jeanette Meisner and Michael Mack.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home 156 Main St. (Route 206), Newton. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Like many others I came to know Todd in the ‘wrestling circles’. When I think of Todd three words stand out: humility, kindness, and character. Many people throw those words around but Todd lived them. What an example he set for adults as well as student/ athletes. One memory that resinates with me: I was officiating the Dover Christmas Tournament, which Todd headed for many years. My son was wrestling for Lenape Valley. Todd held up the matches on my mat, so I could watch my son wrestle. I didn’t ask - he did that on his own. That’s who was and what he did ... for all.
Todd is missed but we were blessed! Thoughts and prayers are for Todd and with his family.
