Anthony Atela Obituary

Anthony P. "Tony" Atela July 3, 1966 - April 11, 2025 Tony Atela, an extraordinary man whose warmth, humor, and kindness touched countless lives, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2025, from complications of an ongoing illness. He was 58 years old.

Born on July 3, 1966, in Roslyn, Washington, Tony was the beloved son of Paulino Basterrechea Atela and Vicky Hill. He was preceded in death by his father, Paulino. He is survived by his mother, Vicky Hill; his brothers Christopher Atela, Doug Chicklinsky, Nick Hill, and Darin Kapalo; his sisters Jennifer Basterrechea and Fabiola Basterrechea Amick; his stepbrother Denis Hill; and all of their families, who loved him dearly.

Tony also leaves behind his devoted life partner of 37 years, Crystal Christian. He embraced Crystal's family as his own, and is survived by Crystal's sisters, Lisa Eyerly and Family, and Dean'na Gerard and Family.

Tony shared a special bond with his uncles Jess Basterrechea and John Basterrechea, who held an important and lasting place in his heart.

A skilled finish carpenter, talented handyman, and accomplished locksmith, Tony spent his entire career in the hardware and carpentry industries. For nearly a decade, he was the welcoming and knowledgeable face at Harper's Lumber in Roslyn, where he became a trusted friend to countless community members. Whether making a key, finding the perfect tool, or sharing a laugh, Tony made everyone who crossed his path feel valued.

Tony's spirit for adventure was just as strong as his craftsmanship. He was a passionate diver and a proud Divemaster, exploring underwater worlds with curiosity and awe. He often spoke about his incredible dive through the lush seaweed forests off Catalina Island.

Tony was also a skilled bass player who loved playing music with his friends. Whether jamming or listening to the latest metal bands in "The Room," music was a lifelong joy and connection point for him.

More than anything, Tony had a way of listening to every heartache without judgment, a rare and priceless gift. His loyalty, kindness, and infectious laugh made the world a better place for everyone lucky enough to know him.

Curious, versatile, and a lifelong learner, Tony was truly one of a kind - a once-in-a-lifetime partner, son, brother, and friend. His absence leaves a deep ache, but his spirit, laughter, and the countless memories he gifted us will live on.

Tony's family will host a celebration of his life at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at the Roslyn Eagles.
