Mark Reed Obituary

Mark Reed Mark Patrick Reed, 69, of Roslyn, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the KVH Hospital in Ellensburg. His family will host a celebration of his life starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Cle Elum Eagles.

Mark was born on March 16, 1955 in Ellensburg to Melray "Sonny" & Patricia (Ozanich) Reed. He grew up in Roslyn and graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1973. At 17 years old, Mark began working summers with the Entiat Hot Shots - also known as "The Bushmen" - fighting wildland fires all over the United States. He spoke very fondly of his time as a wildland firefighter and continued to keep in touch with many of his fellow Bushmen over the years.

In the early 1980's, Mark moved to Whitefish, Montana where he worked at a lumber mill before returning home to Roslyn in 1989, going to work for the United States Forest Service in Cle Elum as a surveyor/road engineer. He returned to school in the late 1990's, attending Central Washington University where he earned his bachelors degree in environmental construction in 2000. Shortly after graduation, he was hired by Superior Asphalt (now Granite Northwest) and retired in 2020 as a Senior Estimator.

Mark met Michelle Naslund in 1995 through a mutual friend and the two hit it off. They later married on July 25, 1998 and made their home in Roslyn not far from where Mark grew up. When he married Michelle, he also became "dad" to her two children - Corrin and Ryan. This was a role he took seriously - he was so proud of both of their life's accomplishments.

Mark loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and camping. He was in his glory during his famous "winter campouts". He had a great sense of humor, was always telling stories, and was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.

Mark is survived by his wife, Michelle, of Roslyn; daughter Corrin (Clinton) Johnson of Lewiston, Idaho; son Ryan (Kali) Reed of Cle Elum; brothers Nick Reed and Chuck (Caren) Reed of Cle Elum; sister in law Nita (Fred) Walsh of Snohomish; "Auntie" Sharon Kies of Ellensburg; grandchildren Kaylynne, Noah, Meila and Tuck; niece Tara and nephews Kyle, Alex and Tanner; as well as many dear friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Melray Steven Reed.

Memorial contributions are suggested to UKC Medic One (c/o the KVH Hospital Foundation in Ellensburg) or to Kittitas County Fire District #6 for the benefit of their Community Medicine Program. The family wishes to thank both agencies for the care and attention they provided Mark.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Cle Elum. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com

Mark Reed was as straight a shooter as any man I have ever known. Mark was a master storyteller, his friends apprentices. Mark was an ordinary guy who led an extraordinary life. I am thankful to have known him.
