Steven Douglas Obituary

Steven R. Douglas Steven Roy Douglas, 76, went home to the Lord on May 11, 2024. Steve was born April 27, 1948, in Salem, Oregon to Chester Orin & Ella (Sturdevant) Douglas. Steve grew up in Salem with his aunts, uncles and their families and friends, hunting and fishing each year around the mountains and lakes of Oregon.

Steve helped with the establishment of a Baskin-Robbins in Salem in 1965. After graduation from South Salem High School in 1966, Steve attended college at Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering. He worked in the campus radio station, developing his interest in radio. He was hired by a local radio station in 1968 as a DJ and moved to television in 1972 as the chief engineer. In 1981, Steve moved to Ellensburg, working at CWU in the media department and helped install and maintain electronic equipment for the next 33 years, retiring in 2014.

In 1968 Steve met and married Betty Stevens. Together they raised two sons and were involved in Boy Scouts and Band Parents Group with both of them.

He was involved in many service organizations including Sheriff's Reserves, Search & Rescue, EMT, Planning Commission and Cub Master for Cub Scouts all in Klamath County, Oregon. Once moving to Kittitas County, he started with Cub Scout Pack when his sons were young, then moved to Scoutmaster for their Boy Scout Troop. He was also involved with the Ellensburg Police Reserves, Search & Rescue, Volunteer Fire Departments, Fire Reserves, an EMT, and a member of the County Planning Commission. He received his HAM radio license and was able to acquire his father's 1941 call sign, W7JAA.

Steve was preceded in death by both parents and grandson Austin Allen. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 56 years; brother Don Douglas, two nephews and families of Soldotna, Alaska; sons Steve (Christina) Douglas of West Virginia and Dave (Crista) Douglas of Ellensburg; grandchildren Ashlee Goos Douglas, David Douglas, Andrew Douglas, Samantha (EJ) Boyer, Ryan Logsdon and Ethan Logsdon; and three great-granddaughters.

I´m so sorry to hear about Steve´s passing. He was one of my favorite people to work with at CWU. Before and since retirement I most often saw Steve and Betty at The Red Cross Blood donations where we shared stories about our Navy family members. I valued and enjoyed visiting with them both. God bless.

Steve lived the all the points of the Scout Law. As a Scout Master his contribution guiding Boy Scouts to turn into fine men will be long remembered. He will now fly with pride with all those Eagle Scouts he supported. Fly high fellow scouter.
