Everything already said by Gary is a ditto: the circumstances and details are slightly different, but the experience has been identical. All I can add is: Bob, I just want to be like you! God love you. Welcome home! and, I hope to see you again someday!

Bonnie and I met Bob Rottman one Saturday morning at a Mass some five or six years ago. Although we had been attending St. Joseph Parish for a number of years, Bonnie and I had just started making Saturday morning Mass a regular part of our faith life. Having never seen us before, here comes this little old gentleman wearing a sport jacket and tie to greet and welcome us to St. Joseph's. We became immediate friends with St. Joe's unofficial goodwill ambassador. Bob took time to greet everyone he passed on his way to his customary pew and we were no exception. Comparable in age, Bob would always ask how Bonnie's mom was doing and never failed to ask about Liza. Understandably a little unsteady on his feet at times he was sharp as a tack always well informed on issues affecting the church and armed with an opinion. Bob was an inspiration for me. I am a better Catholic and a better person for having known him. Through Bob, we were blessed to meet and become friends with his wonderful family. If friendship was to be the only blessing we received from this beautiful soul it would have been enough, however, we received so much more. God has taken Bob home after nearly 92 years on this earth. We will miss his physical presence at Mass; his warm smile, his laughter, his handshake and his hugs are all part of us now. However, his spiritual presence will be felt each time we attend Mass at St. Joseph's. I'll still be listening for the shuffle of Bob's feet from behind as he makes his way to his customary pew stopping to put his hand on my shoulder and sharing his warm smile. Peace be with you Bob. We love you and we will miss you.
