SEILKOP

Herbert Hoover, age 88, passed away January 21, 2017, at home surrounded by family. After the death of his spouse (Phyllis) of 63 years, he was blessed by the devotion and love of his wife, Maryanne (Keefer) Seilkop. He was the father of Steve (Donna Sivulka) Seilkop and Sandy (Rick) Lingo and the grandfather of Stacia (Nathan Face) Lingo and Allison (Henrik-Olav Osvik) Lingo. He was the brother of Ken (Marilyn) Seilkop and Sue (Tom) Shackleford. Herb had a 40-year career in the foundry business, working in partnership with his father and brother to build and expand operations that today comprise Seilkop Industries. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew United Church of Christ (which merged with two other churches to become Fleming Road UCC), where he served in numerous leadership roles, including those in the kitchen, where he continued the St. Matthew traditions of Brotherhood dinners, Easter breakfasts, and mett sausage suppers. He volunteered at the Valley Interfaith food bank for over two decades. Herb was a world traveler who toured every state and over 100 countries on every continent. All his life he planned vacations for his family. When his children were young, he took them to historically significant cities, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Williamsburg, camped with them in National Parks, and relaxed at Myrtle Beach. When his children were adults, he took them and their families to Mexico, the Cayman Islands, and Isle of Palms. He shared his travel experiences by speaking at his Kiwanis chapter and in schools. Herb was a lifelong sports enthusiast, both as a participant and fan. He played and coached amateur softball for more than 50 years, played basketball until he was 70, and was a golfer into his 80's. He actively supported the basketball and football teams of his alma mater (UC), attending nearly all of their home contests and traveling to several tournaments and Bowl games. He was blessed in his final year by the compassionate care of Drs. Budke, English, Mallick, Parchman, and Khouri, and Hospice of Cincinnati. On Saturday, January 28, at Fleming Road UCC, 691 Fleming Rd., 45231, friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, a memorial service at 11:00, and a luncheon at noon.
