Dr. Jeffrey Alan Ward

Fort Thomas - Dr. Jeffrey Alan Ward passed away on Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 at the age of 60 after a five-month fight with a Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme tumor. He was born on February 11, 1961, in Fort Thomas, Ky. Jeff is survived by his wife, Elissa Ward, children, Hadassah, age 25, Rachel, age 15, Jonathan, age 12, Aviel, age 10, and Naomi, age 6, mother, Carleen Painter Kees, sister, Yvette Wilson, niece, Faith Wilson, and nephew, William Wilson. Jeff was predeceased by his father, Robert Eugene Ward. Dr. Ward held undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy, master's degrees in Mathematics and Computer and Information Science, and during his doctoral degree he focused on mathematical logic and automated reasoning. He worked as a computer game programmer, designed and implemented his own AI scripting language, and continued to be interested in gaming, combinatorial computing, and energy informatics throughout his career. As a tenured computer science professor at Northern Kentucky University, Dr. Ward was revered by his students as a kind, empathetic, patient, and incredibly intelligent professor. Jeff served over twenty-three years at Beth Messiah congregation where he met his wife of seventeen years. He lived his life fully committed to the Lord. His favorite Psalm was Psalm 32. He was incredibly interested in science-based apologetics, could play the guitar and piano, and often went on hikes with his kids. Just last summer, he walked his eldest daughter down the aisle and used his last year in quarantine to spend every moment that he could with his family. He was a devoted husband, dad, and son. He loved the Lord, his family, and his community and will be immensely missed. Graveside service will be held at Alexandria Cemetery, 7 Spillman Drive, Alexandria, KY 41001 on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 1:00pm. Masks required by both vaccinated and unvaccinated attendees. In lieu of flowers or food, please consider donating to Reasons to Believe (reasons.org) in honor of Jeff's passion for science-based apologetics which fueled his faith and relationship with the Lord.
