Alonia Johnson Obituary

Alonia 'Mom' Johnson was called home to eternal rest by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday January 6, 2024 at the age of 99. She was born July 7, 1924 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Edward and Orita Royal. She was the second of four children. She was a resident of Waggaman, LA. Alonia grew up in St. Rose La and New Orleans La where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. An employee of Krauss Department store and the Swift Packing company. Alonia was also employed as a driver for the Council on Aging where she later retired from in 1989. Alonia's' first marriage was to the late Henry Lewis and to their union was one son Romalise Sherman Lewis. Alonia's' second marriage was to the Late Nolan B. Johnson Sr. and three sons were born from this union: Nolan, Marcus, and Sanders. She was preceded in death by her siblings Arthur, Stanley (Gwendolyn) Royal, and Wilberine Smith (Leonard). Daughter-in law Waymie Lewis, Grandson Terrance Lewis, and Great Grandson Semaj Lewis. Alonia was better known as "MOM" throughout the family and the community. She enjoyed playing with the grandkids, watching Judge Judy and wrestling. She leaves to treasure her precious memories four devoted children Romalice Lewis (late Waymie), Nolan (Antqualene), Marcus (Season), Sanders (Jennifer). 13 Grandkids, 7 Great Grand kids, 3 Great Great kids, 2 Godchildren Charlene Preston and Lynette Goodman, extended family Slata (Minnie) Hillaire, Dolores Pierre, Rosanna Borne, Sheila Green, Sheila Toney and a host of relatives and friends. Relatives, friends and members of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church 152 E 6th St, Edgard La 70049. Visitation 9:00 am until time of service at the above-named church. Interment will be at Providence Memorial Park 8200 Airline Dr. Metairie LA. No Repass to follow. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Directors, Inc. 605 Main Street Laplace LA 70068.
