Andrew Gressett Obituary

Andrew Ludwig Gressett, born on August 31, 1955, departed this world suddenly while doing what he loved best: traveling with his family on December 28, 2021. He died in Orlando, Florida at the "happiest place on earth" from a massive stroke. He considered his glass never half empty, but always half full enjoying every moment given to him in his 66 years on earth. He was a devoted husband to Bam Viloria Gressett and loving father to Andrew Ludwig Christopher Gressett. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd Gressett and Catherine Perrien Gressett. He is survived by his brothers Allen (Sharon) and Shane (Brenda) Gressett several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Andrew was born and bred in New Orleans attending St. Henry's Elementary School, L.E. Rabouin Vocational Technical School becoming a lithographer. While in high school, he entered the world of magic taking the name of "Andrew the Great" performing magic shows for children's birthday parties and other events. He was also the former banner boy for the Jefferson City Buzzards. After completing high school, he attended college but realized the field of real estate was his calling. He worked for Southern Realty and Community Improvement Agency. He started New Orleans Realty in 1986 after receiving his Real Estate Broker's license and his Graduate of Realtors Institute (GRI) designation specializing in commercial asset management. He lived a rich life attending the Oscars over 30 years meeting various celebrities and walking the red carpet. Although he loved visiting such cities as Los Angeles, New York City or Chicago, he felt his hometown was the best place to live. This belief drove his passion to improve the quality of life in the City causing him to participate in the political process through joining political parties and organizations, standing for elections, and raising issues as an advocate for fairer taxes, zoning, and other issues. He also was a member of various civic organizations such as the Krewe of Sparta, Krewe of Bacchus, and International Brotherhood of Magicians. Relatives and friends of Andrew are invited to come to St. Henry's Catholic Church for visitation at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:30 p.m., interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery #3. An online guestbook is available at www.schoenfh.com. Arrangements by Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119.

A new year begins as the last one dissipates like the smoke from a cigar. The memories linger like the taste of as good whiskey or bourbon. Where have two years gone?

The phone would ring and on the other end was the wonderful voice that was attached to an endearing smile. It was Andrew calling to share stories of how he spent the holidays. A short phone call usually lasted a half an hour. The good calls last many times longer. Andrew and I talked about the events in our lives since the last time we spoke. We talk about magic and the conventions either of us would be attending. We checked our calendars hoping our paths would cross. This is the time of year I miss my friend the most.

Andrew, you are missed my friend and not forgotten.

Andrew and I were best friends. The best thing I ever found it on magic convention was his friendship. That was almost 12 years ago. Andrew and I enjoyed many hours on the phone, and I was lucky enough to join him in his family in Las Vegas, and in New Orleans. He loved and cared about his family and always put them first. It always amazes me how much Andrew knew about construction and I always told him he should´ve been a lawyer. I will always cherish and remember the times we had together, Andrew enjoyed life and made the most of it every day. I will never forget him and his kindness. Andrew until we meet again, aloha

I am missing my friend Andrew.
Our bond was magic. For the last 9 years Andrew and I enjoyed a long-distance friendship with phone calls, e-mails and texts. We shared ideas regarding our craft of entertaining people with our magic. Andrew contributed to my book "The Magic Graveyard." It was a delight to be on the phone with him. Somehow every 10-minute call lasted an hour. Finally, in October 2021 we met at a magic history conference in Orlando. Andrew treated me to a delicious steak dinner and afterward we found ourselves in a cigar bar. It was a perfect evening with plans for a future get together. Alas that will be put off until we meet at the big magic convention in heaven. My prayers are with Bam and Drew that God comforts you during this very sad time. Andrew and I never had a conversation without him mentioning you. He cherished and loved you both.
May you rest in peace my friend.
Aloha,
Al The Only
