His many hobbies included sailing, for which he had a lifelong passion. He was a summer camp counselor at Southern Yacht Club in his teens where he taught sailing, competed in the 1964 Olympic Trials, and sailed competitively in the Twilight Races with his Flying Scot named Prestissimo for many years. He also enjoyed hiking in the Woodlands Conservancy with his loving wife Lucie. He is predeceased by his father, mother, and sister, Carolyn Whitley Strickler. Sometime this summer, when we're headed dead down wind on the last leg of the last twilight race of the evening, I'll look off the starboard stern and wonder why Drew isn't creeping up on us as we sail to the finish. In that moment, I'll smile and look at the sunset and know that he's there, he's in the wind and I'm sure I'll hear him whisper as he passes, "well, if it isn't the lovely Julianna ..." My prayers to you, Lucie, for such a sudden loss. My parents, Pam & Sonny Wiegand, send their condolences as well as they were schoolmates of his at St. Martins.
