Dear Bucky, My sincere condolences to you and your family in the loss of your mother. I was out of town and could not attend the services. May God's grace give you comfort and peace in your time of sorrow.

I'm sorry about this tremendous loss. This is a great loss for many of her former students. She taught me at Greenbrier, and I shall never forget some of the "social graces" we learned in a humorous way.
I'm also sorry I couldn't attend the service. I was at a memorial service for a first cousin at the same time.

Miss Betsy was my seventh grade teacher at Mt. Zion Elementary, about 45 years ago...she left life lasting impressions for me,with her teaching...although, I could never memorize that "Gettysburg Address" in it's entirety, she was always patient...she left a legacy with all fortunate enough to have her as their teacher...I will miss running into her at Walmart and the Post Office...my deepest sympathies to the family...

Dear Buck,
You and the family are in my thoughts as you deal with the loss of "Miss Betsy."
Betsy never was afraid to speak up and let her feelings be known. I always admired that about her because it was unusual for a woman of her generation.
I have good memories of times at your house. Remember when your mother was determined to get you to study and somehow saw me as a motivator? Did she ever know we just talked and tried to outdo each other at being funny? I don't think we ever studied.
I hope your good memories and the support of family and friends will help you through this time. Miss Betsy lived a good and long life. Still, the people we love most always go sooner than we'd like.
Peace and love to you,
Lucinda Martin Shirley
