Anthony Sanchez Obituary

SANCHEZ Anthony John Sanchez Jr. Born August 13, 1918 Died April 10, 2009 Anthony Sanchez, Jr., age 90, surrounded by loving family was peacefully lifted home to his Heavenly Father on Good Friday, April 10, 2009. He lived his life devoted to God and family. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, watching baseball and listening to country music. He had a special place in his heart for his pet Pomeranian "Little Man". He was a warm and generous person with a gentle disposition and was endeared by all who knew him. While he was strong willed, hard-headed and stubborn, he was also filled with integrity, honesty, respect, courage, love and hard working. If anyone needed anything they knew whom to ask. He truly believed in sharing what little he had with those less fortunate than himself. He tried to instill those values in his children and all others that he met. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Even though he was weak and suffering from Dementia one of the last things he said to his granddaughter Laurie was "If you need any help please be sure to call me". He was a parishioner of St. Stephen Church. He resided at Malta Park Assisted Living Facility, until his last hospital stay at Touro Infirmary when he was transferred to Skilled Nursing at Woldenberg Village in Algiers, LA. He was a retired Longshoreman. Among other steamship agencies he worked for J.P. Florio, and T. Smith and Sons. Survivors include daughters June Sanchez, Joy Acosta, son-in-Law Ursin, sons Anthony Sanchez, III, daughter-in-Law Barbara Welker Sanchez, Charles Sanchez, Sr., daughter-in-law Carolyn Guillory Sanchez, grandchildren Lisa PaIisi (Vincent), Larry Acosta (Darnell), Laurie Frederick (Jeff), Lonnie Acosta, Charles Sanchez, Jr. (Jodi), Tommy Sanchez (Debbie), Tanya Sanchez Horan (Clint). I'll always remember the good times we had when we were youngsters growing up in the Alliance Florida community,Tony, Horty May, Aunt Maude and Loretta came for visits. If you were sent out to find a good man, no one would need to look further than Tony. Our best wishes go out to the entire family.

Uncle Tony and Aunt Horty Mae were not my real aunt and uncle but they both were the closest aunt and uncle to our family. I have nothing but love for them both and I will miss them dearly. I am so happy that they are buried so near to my mother and daddy (Eleanor and Sam Governale). In life the two families were so close and I have such fond memories of great times we had growing up together. I miss them too much. Love Shirley (Governale) Akis

Tony was a very special addition to our family when he married our cousin, Horty Mae. Never one to put himself forward, he was always ready with a smile and a kind and uplifting word wherever needed. Joy, Buddy, Charles and June Ann our prayers and thoughts are with you. We'd be there if we could and I know your Aunt Billie would say the same if she were able. We love you and your families.

My father is largely responsible for who I am today. He expected discipline, honesty, integrity and respect from his children.

I dreamed of my dad three days before he died. He held me in his arms (something he seldom did), told me he was sorry (for what I do not know) then put his head down and wept. He had a code by which he lived, and he lived well. He leaves behind an extended family who love him very much. I am happy he is at peace.
