Anthony Sylvester Obituary

SYLVESTER Anthony Sylvester, a retired Orleans Parish School principal, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the age of 58. He was the beloved son of the late Corrine Sylvain and grandson of the late Joseph and Albertine Sylvain and devoted nephew of Bertha Sylvain and the late Marie Roberts, Joseph and Orelia Sylvain. Anthony was a graduate of Frances T. Nicholls High School, University of New Orleans and George Peabody and Vanderbilt Universities, where he received his Master's Degree in Education. A resident of New Orleans, LA, he was employed as an educator and principal by Orleans Parish Schools for many years. He was an instructor with Xavier and Dillard Universities of New Orleans, LA. He enjoyed fellowship with Parishioners of St. Maria Goretti. He is survived by one godchild, Keisha Johnson, a devoted cousin, Tamera K. Sylvain and a host of cousins, friends and colleagues. Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Mr. Sylvester was my American History teacher at Fannie C. Williams Middle School back in 1984. I can still remember how kind and soft spoken he was like it was yesterday. RIP Mr. Sylvester.

I was saddened to learn of Anthony's passing. We worked as administrators at F.Gregory Junior High school and established a friendship that expanded our careers.

Anthony was jovial, witty, kind and an absolute gentleman.He was very spiritual and completely devoted to his family and friends. Farewell, my friend.

To Anthony's Family, God is able to heal all sorry and especially the pain of death.
I am very sorry to hear about the passing of my friend, Anthony Sylvester. He and I shared many educational ideas and thoughts about how to make students successful and what educational leader should do to make schools better for all learner. He was a kind and gentle person who was respected by everyone who knew him. We developed a long friendship which included my wife (Angelyn) and children (Meika and Joe, Jr.). He was the godfather of my youngest son (Jason). He was apart of many social events at my home prior to Katrina. He will be missed. God Loves You! Your Soul is at Peace.
