Gerald R Boyer Jr. was my husband, and every time we drove by this gray block house Located on Forge Road right near the intersection of 322 and Forge Road, he would squeeze my hand and say we used to live there. The first time he did this I thought he was joking. But he kept doing it and he had a happy look combined with pride as he said he lived in that tiny gray block house. Jerry said it was really fun and he loved it. Eventually I asked his mom about it. She said it had no insulation, no indoor toilet , and they lived there at least for one year while her husband Gerald Sr. Was living away finishing his degree. I know there were three children at least , and she may have been pregnant with Tim, but she said It was fun. They worked together and made it work. It impressed me that what seemed like adversities to me, were what Arlene had the inner strength to use to make fun for her pre school children and a joyful memory for Jerry.
