Barbara Casten Obituary

CASTEN, BARBARA ANN, of Birmingham passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009 after a brief illness. She was born on August 6, 1928 in Arlington, MA. Barbara was a gregarious, generous woman whose warmth and kindness endeared her to all who knew her. Among her varied interests was a love of travel (especially to the beach), history, and opera/classical music. Barbara was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, Dr. Gus Casten and her grandson Nicholas Volz. She is survived by her daughter Diana C."Dini" (Bill) Volz of Katy, Texas; Leslie C. (Michael) Bartenfeld of Atlanta, GA; Son Samuel Casten of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Lauren Ashley Volz, Michael Casten Bartenfeld and Emily Ann Bartenfeld; cousin Kathleen Westell, special nephew Dr. Peter Casten and God-daughter Louise Neff. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Elmwood Chapel with visitation beginning at 12:30 P.M. Entombment will at Elmwood Cemetery.
